World Cup Engineering Challenge

📍 Music Classroom ⏱ 10 min

The World Cup trophy needs a special place! Your mission is to build a tall and strong tower to hold the trophy.

Your tower must

Stand on its own
Be as tall as possible
Hold the World Cup trophy for 15 seconds

Your mission

PLAN — Look at your materials. How can you make the paper stronger?
BUILD — Build the tallest tower you can. You can fold, roll, or bend the paper.
TEST — Place the trophy on top. Can your tower hold it for 15 seconds?
If it falls, change your design and try again!

Teamwork String Challenge

📍 GYM ⏱ 10 min

Get ready to draw... without touching the marker! Your team must work together to move one marker using only strings.

LEVEL 1 — START! Each team member holds one string. Work together to draw the shape.
LEVEL 2 — KEEP GOING! Try a trickier shape. Talk to your team and move carefully.
LEVEL 3 — BONUS! Try the final Challenge Card.

Rules

Everyone must hold a string.
Do not touch the marker with your hands.
Move the marker only with the strings.
Listen and talk to your teammates.
Complete Level 1 and Level 2.
If you have time, try Level 3 — Bonus!

REVEAL — Dip your paintbrush into the revealing solution and gently brush it over each Secret Card.

FIND THE SECRET WORD — Put your 5 letters together.
FINAL SECRET MESSAGE — Tell the facilitator your Secret Word.

The Egg Drop Challenge

Our little Egg Astronaut needs to land safely! Build a landing capsule that will protect your egg when it drops.

Materials

1 raw egg

10 plastic straws

1 meter of masking tape

2 balloons

2 sheets of newspaper

1 small paper cup

Your mission

PLAN — How can you protect the egg?
BUILD — Build a landing capsule for your Egg Astronaut.
CHECK — Is your egg protected? Is anything loose?
DROP! — Bring your capsule to the Launch Zone. The facilitator will drop it.

Rules

Use only the materials provided.
The egg must be inside the capsule.
Everyone must help.
Kids lead the building.
The facilitator makes the final drop.
Stay behind the Launch Zone during the drop.

Rollin' Along! Roller Coaster Challenge

📍 Fishtank · 3rd Floor ⏱ 12 min

The STEAM Adventure Park needs a new roller coaster! Build a track for a Ping-Pong ball. The ball must start at the TOP and travel all the way to the FINISH without anyone touching it.

4 cardboard tubes

8 straws

6 craft sticks

4 pipe cleaners

2 sheets of paper

1 sheet of aluminum foil

1 meter of tape

6 mailing labels

1 Ping-Pong ball

Your mission

PLAN — Where will your roller coaster START? Where will it FINISH?
BUILD — Build a track that starts HIGH, finishes LOW, and has at least 1 TURN.
TEST — Put the ball at the START. Let it go!
FIX & TRY AGAIN — If the ball falls off or stops, change your design and try again.

Rules

Use only the materials provided.
The ball must move by GRAVITY ONLY.
Do not push or touch the ball after START.
Your track must have at least 1 turn.
You may test and improve your coaster.
Everyone must participate.

Morse in the Dark

Build a working circuit to turn on an LED. Then use your light to send a secret message in Morse code.

Rules

Build a working circuit by placing the components in the correct order.
Make the LED light work using the battery box and cables.
Use the LED light to communicate a secret message in Morse code.
The receiving team must observe the light signals and decode the message.
The receiving team must share the secret password.
Teams must work together and test their circuit.
The message must be sent using Morse code only.

Team Power Challenge

Build a vehicle powered by AIR! Your vehicle must carry 2 Ping-Pong balls from the START and travel as far as possible.

4 bottle-cap wheels

Your mission

PLAN — How will your vehicle move, carry the balls, and catch the air?
BUILD — Make sure it can move and carry 2 Ping-Pong balls.
TEST — Use AIR ONLY to make it move.
FIX & TRY AGAIN — Make a change and test again.
FINAL TEST — Place both balls inside and use your air power!

Start behind the START line.
Carry 2 Ping-Pong balls.
Use air only to move your vehicle.
Do not push the vehicle with your hands.
Once it starts moving, do not touch it.
Everyone must participate.

Paper Pony Sprint

Light Up the City

The city has lost its power! Solve the math problems to discover which floors belong to your team. Then build a circuit and light them up.

SOLVE — Find the equations that equal your team's secret number.
BUILD YOUR CIRCUIT — Red leg = + and black leg = −.
